Eddie Izzard (born 7 February 1962) is an English stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and activist. Eddie Izzard was born in Yemen and moved to Northern Ireland when she was one years old until she was five, when she and her family moved to Wales. When Eddie Izzard attended the University of Sheffield, she started doing comedy together with her friend Rob Ballard. They eventually quit university and decided to perform on the street together before Eddie Izzard Rob Ballard split up in the early 1980s. Eddie Izzard then began performing alone, on the street in Europe and the United States. She has stated that this was the point at which she started to develop her comedic style and started to perform at comedy venues like the Banana Cabaret in Balham, London. Eddie Izzard kept on performing at various venues and improving her act before eventually releasing her first television special Live at the Ambassadors in 1993. After the success of her first television appearance, she released eight more specials throughout her career: Unrepeatable (1994), Definite Article (1996), Glorious (1997), Dress to Kill (1998), Circle (2000), Sexie (2003), Stripped (2009), and Force Majeure (2013). Besides Eddie Izzard's stand-up, she also began her career as an actress, appearing in TV-shows like The Riches and movies like Ocean's Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen, Shadow of the Vampire, The Cat's Meow, and Valkyrie. Eddie Izzard is also known for her marathon feats where she would run a marathon each day for a number of days, raising money and spreading awareness for various charities like Sport Relief. Eddie Izzard is also politically active for the Labour Party and has run unsuccessfully for the party's National Executive Committee. Izzard is genderfluid and has said she prefers 'she' and 'her' pronouns, but "doesn't mind" 'he' and 'him'.
